About Mike & Simon
Mike Irwin is an advisor, board member, consultant, entrepreneur, mentor, strategist, and writer. He started a sports product company, a publishing company, and has served as global strategy officer, VP marketing, head of sales, and public company CFO at WD-40.
Through Bottle Rocket Advisors, he helps clients grow revenue, improve profitability, and scale-up. He brings an experienced outsider’s eye, an insider’s sense of how to get things done, and an owner’s urgency to each client.
He serves as vice chair on the board of directors of Kitchens For Good and on the board of San Diego Sport Innovators. He served as executive chair of the board of directors of Kano Laboratories in Nashville, best known for its Kroil brand. He has served as a business mentor for Chairmen's Roundtable, San Diego Sport Innovators, Santander X Global Award, and TrepCamp of Mexico.
His hardest and best lessons came from working in multiple trade channels, managing brands, and spending time in more than 40 countries. A veteran of 10 marathons including Boston, he ran his fastest pace ever at the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. When not running, he can usually be found out riding and crashing bicycles. He lives in San Diego, California.
Simon Daw is a global commercial, innovation, and marketing strategist. He has grown categories in large and small companies, including the likes of WD-40, Kimberly Clark, Bel Fromageries, Whitbread, and Tate & Lyle . He has scaled new business initiatives in B2B and B2C across categories and countries. He is now working independently with businesses, from large corporates to growing smaller operations, developing competitive advantage and helping them achieve step-change profitable growth.
His most vibrant learning experiences emerged from managing brands to address cultural and market-specific opportunities across multiple countries and steering diverse marketing and commercial teams through change.
A self-considered specialist in visual design, he creates visually arresting table centrepieces at Christmastime and builds outdoor barbecues that prove to be the envy of neighbours and professional barbecuers. His heart fires like a dragon and as a Welsh rugby fanatic, Millenium Stadium in Cardiff is his official hallowed ground where his cultured voice can be heard during international season.
He's now based near London, can still run, cycle and even jump onto and fall off a windsurf board.
